Liposuction Introduction
There are a lot of people who feel frustrated with trying to lose fat around their abdomen, thighs, and flanks. Sometimes exercise and diet aren’t enough to get rid of stubborn fat. Thousands of patients all over the world have been undergoing this plastic surgery for over 3 decades! According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), liposuction is the second most popular cosmetic surgery in the U.S. Contrary to popular belief, liposuction does not promote weight loss.
Liposuction is a procedure for contouring the body or face. Due to the accurate targeting and elimination of isolated fat deposits, you can be assured of its safety and effectiveness. Therefore, liposuction is a great option for those who want noticeable results and a more aesthetically pleasing body. A portion of the body is reshaped and slimmed down by removing excess fat deposits. By doing so, a person’s physique, proportion, and body contour will be improved.
What Is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a procedure used to contour the body by surgically removing pockets of fat under the skin. Dr. X’s first step is to inject tumescent fluid into the target area. In his practice, he uses a variety of liposuction technologies to break up adipose cells. Through a cannula attached to a vacuum device, he suctions out fat cells. As a result, the treated area looks slimmer and more defined.
Most liposuction procedures are performed as outpatient procedures under local anesthesia or general anesthesia, depending on the patient’s preferences. A liposuction procedure typically results in long-lasting results. The patient must, however, maintain a steady weight and general fitness. As soon as the swelling and fluid retention following liposuction surgery subsides, you will be able to see an improvement in your body contour.
Are You A Candidate For Liposuction?
Dr. X only schedules a liposuction surgery after determining the candidacy of an individual. Usually, the best candidates are those who are in good health and within twenty-five pounds of the ideal weight prescribed for their body. The candidates must also be over 18 years of age in order to qualify for a liposuction procedure.
Dr. X’s ideal candidate for liposuction:
– Has realistic cosmetic goals
– Is neither pregnant nor breastfeeding
– Is dedicated to maintaining a healthy lifestyle
– Has long-term weight stability
– Has a body mass index of 25 or less
– Has no serious medical conditions
– Has no history of poor scarring
– Refrains from using nicotine or is willing to do so
– Recognizes that cosmetic surgery has potential risks

BENEFITS OF LIPOSUCTION

Liposuction is a Safe Removal of Fat

Perhaps one of the top reasons that liposuction is becoming so popular is that it is such a safe procedure. During liposuction, small incisions are made to your treatment areas, and then a fluid is injected into your body to anesthetize the area and break up the fat cells. After this is completed, a small tube called a cannula is inserted into the incision and suction is applied. What’s removed is a pure form of fat, free of blood. Liposuction is typically an outpatient procedure, and patients are usually back on their feet after 2 days of rest.

Liposuction Permanently Removes Fat Cells

Possibly one of the most favored benefits that Hobart residents have of liposuction is that it permanently removes fat cells in the treatment areas. Once the fat cells are removed, they will not grow back! Keep in mind, though, that just because you lose fat cells in one area of your body, doesn’t mean you can’t gain fat in another area. It’s important after a liposuction procedure to maintain your weight so that you do not gain weight in other areas of your body.

Fat Loss Can Improve Your Health

We all know the importance of maintaining a healthy weight and body mass index (BMI). Because liposuction removes unwanted fat deposits – about 4lbs or more per treatment area – it can help you move closer to your idea weight and BMI, providing you with overall improved health.

Liposuction Improves Your Appearance

Despite the efforts of some Hobart residents to first see the beauty that lies within a person, many people in our society judge people by their looks. Unfortunately, if you have unwanted fat on your body, people may use that fact to form negative opinions of you. Liposuction improves your appearance by giving you a more aesthetically appealing physique and changing the ways that others view you.

Liposuction Can Remove Fat That Even Diet and Exercise Can’t

Perhaps one of the biggest benefits of liposuction is that it is effective at removing stubborn fatty deposits that just won’t go away on their own, no matter how well you eat or how often you work out. In fact, liposuction is often used by people who are healthy eaters and physically active but just can’t seem to drop unwanted fat in certain problem areas like the abdomen, love handles, arms and back rolls.

Frequently Asked Questions
Liposuction vs. Tummy Tuck: What is the difference?
After weight loss or pregnancy, a tummy tuck removes excess skin from the abdomen. If necessary, separated abdominal muscles may also be repaired. Fat reduction is not the primary goal of a tummy tuck, although some subcutaneous fat is removed along with the skin. Liposuction removes adipose tissue, which can result in an abdominal area that is more toned. The effects of liposuction on skin tightening are modest compared to a tummy tuck. A tummy tuck, liposuction, or a combination of the two may be recommended by Dr. X based on your clinical presentation and goals.
How do I recover after Liposuction?
In the case of liposuction, it is an ambulatory procedure. Following surgery, you will rest in our recovery room for one hour, under the care of a registered nurse. After liposuction, a compression garment is worn at home. Generally, a person can return to work within two days of liposuction, but more extensive lipoplasty may take up to one week. After liposuction, the compression garment is worn religiously for 2 weeks, followed by more rest in weeks 3 and 4. During weeks 5 and 6, the garment is only worn for exercise. As an alternative to surgical garments, Spanx can be used in many cases. After your liposuction, swelling persists for the first two weeks, then begins to decrease rapidly; at six weeks, swelling decreases even more rapidly, with about 12 weeks to go before you see your final result.
